Don Kiely Consulting LLC has extensive experience in developing WordPress and SquareSpace websites. On this page are a few of our recent sites, with information about our initial and continuing role in the site.
All of the sites that we develop are responsive, meaning that the sites generally operate as well in a desktop browser at high resolution as they do on smartphones and tablets.
Virtually all of the sites, depending on the needs and wants of the organization, are built with:
- Search engine optimization (SEO) to rank in search results.
- Ecommerce capabilities, either built in (we’re WooCommerce experts) or integrated with various third-party commerce sites.
- Full support for Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmaster Tools), for metrics on how visitors to a site got there, and Google Analytics so that the organizations have access to a wealth of information about their site visitors.
- Integration with Google G Suite of tools, which include Gmail, Google Drive for collaborative documents, etc. We’ve also helped many of these nonprofit organizations apply for and receive Google for Nonprofits, which gets them all of the tools for free, potentially including a $10,000/month Google AdWords grant.
- If the organization needs it, full website maintenance services, including content updates, backups (optionally including offsite, secure storage), security scans and mitigation, software updates, and more.
- Resilient security, which means putting security in place from the start and continuous monitoring. An important part of security is site backups, SSL/TLS encryption, and keeping all components updated.
We can also help with finding and registering the perfect domain name and host.

Alaska Endurance Trail Website
AETR is a 6-, 12, and 24-hour running race on the UAF West Ridge Trails each June. The site needs to have all the information that runners need before signing up for the race, as well as what they need to prepare for it. Registration is handled on a third-party ultrarunning site, but this site manages sign-ups and schedules for the many volunteers needed to make the race happen. We developed the site and continue to maintain it.

Alaska International Senior Games website
AISG is a weeklong celebration of athletes aged 50 and over. During the week, 20 sports with some 60 events are held in Fairbanks, with people from all over North America participating. There is a lot of content about the various sports on the site, most of which needs to be updated each year. We developed the site and continue to host and maintain it.

Ballroom Dance Club of Fairbanks website
We helped the club rebuild their website from scratch. The new site is designed to keep club members, and potential members, informed about dance events and classes. It includes an ecommerce store using WooCommerce to handle registrations, and integration with the Square payment gateway.

Equinox Marathon website
The Equinox Marathon is Fairbanks’ premier running race each year. With the help of the then-race-director, we rebuilt the site from scratch. Registration is handled by a third-party site, but this site is content-heavy, with lots of race history, information for people interested in running or hiking it, and race statistics to bend the mind. The site also had to include information about related events, including the Equinox Kids Marathon. The site also has a cool interactive map of the course, developed by club member Ed Debevec. We continue to maintain the site and keep it updated.

Fairbanks Area Hiking Club website
The Fairbanks Area Hiking Club is a very active group in Interior Alaska whose members are adept at various online tools for connecting people for both organized and informal outings. The site uses blog posts and a variety of pages to document trails and the history of hiking in the area. Don is a founding member of the club, hosts the website, and does pretty much all the maintenance and posting on the site, with lots of input from club members.

Fairbanks Cycle Club website
The Fairbanks Cycle Club website was a bit of a challenge, only because the former website had an amazing amount of content built up over many years. The site includes race results, detailed information about their many regular events, an archive of all old content that didn’t make the cut for the new site, and more. The built-in WooCommerce store lets them sell memberships, event registrations, and merchandise online. There are also some interesting integrations with the club’s email list and other communications channels. We do ongoing maintenance for the site.

Fairbanks Paddlers website
Fairbanks Paddlers is another very active sports group in Interior Alaska, supporting kayaking, canoeing, rafting, and other non-motorized water sports. John Schauer of Think Far Beyond built the site, and we host it and perform ongoing maintenance and support. The site has lots of information for members, and handles registrations for events and memberships.

Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks
This was a challenging project, mainly because of all the incredible activities that NSCF is involved in and the number of volunteers involved to make it all work. There is a lot of content on the site for their many programs, and we had to aggregate event and other information at both the club and program levels. It also has an integrated weather page that is hooked into a real-time weather station and webcam. Site navigation was a challenge, so we came up with a three-tier menu structure to make everything accessible and easy to find. We do the ongoing maintenance and support for the site, with lots of help from the various program coordinators.

Running Club North website
Running Club North is another organization with many members and lots of activities to support road and trail running in Interior Alaska. We built this site in collaboration with a couple of gifted Web builders in the club. Together we developed the content and the navigation structure that has stood the test of time as the club grows and evolves. We took the lead on integrating CiviCRM, an open-source constituent relationship management system for nonprofits, which the club uses to manage its memberships. The site has an ecommerce store, where the club sells memberships, merchandise, and takes donations. It also has a cool, interactive map, developed by club member Ed Debevec, that has information about running routes around Fairbanks. We do the ongoing maintenance and support for the site.

Save Tangle Lakes website
Save Tangle Lakes is an advocacy website we developed in partnership with the Copper Country Alliance, with the goal of protecting the Tangle Lakes area of the Alaska Range and its wildlife. The end goal is to establish a Tangle Lakes State Game Refuge to protect the area from mining and other development. The site has a lot of information about the area and its importance to the people of Alaska, as well as suggestions about actions that anyone can take to push the project forward.

The Folk School, Fairbanks
The Folk School is a nonprofit, community education organization with the mission to perpetuate the joy of hands-on learning. They offers year-round classes and programs for all ages in
traditional crafts, woodworking, outdoor skills, and hands-on arts and sciences. We developed this site in partnership with Maia Jones, the school’s gifted webmaster and graphics designer. There are a lot of moving parts to this site, with a full event calendar and class registration system built with WooCommerce, as well as an online merchandise store. It is one of the more complex stores we’ve built, to meet the complex needs of The Folk School. This is another site where we integrated CiviCRM so that they can manage memberships and donations. We continue to assist with ongoing maintenance and development.

Women Who Dared website
Women Who Dared was founded by Diann Darnell as a way to recognize and honor women who have taken a personal risk that furthered the advancement of equal opportunity and status for women. The site a simple structure to highlight these women. We created the site and defined the initial structure, continue to host it, and do all maintenance and support for the site. It’s our honor to be a tiny part of this amazing work.

Warbelow’s Air Ventures is a regional airline in Interior Alaska, and we built this site using SquareSpace, their preferred platform. The site is mostly content, containing everything that a person needs to know about flying with them, whether on scheduled service to a village, a charter to anywhere in Alaska, or a tour. It uses a simple integration with the company’s TakeFlite reservation and management system.
